What has been going on ?
It is encouraging to report that the BAA webinars, now in their sixth year, continue and our first face to face meeting was held earlier this year for the first time in quite a while. We hope to be able arrange more of these going forward and possibly a larger one-day event if there is sufficient support.
Jake has been working on our websites and is now making good progress. More about that later.
This year there will not be a Dyalog user meeting but there will be one next year however the APL challenge competition continues in its new format. However, Roy Sykes and Brian Becker are arranging the Minnowbrook conference this year in America. But of course, there are many other events going on around the world which I am less familiar with.
The APL Trust Fund
You may recall that I mentioned last year that Dyalog were setting up the APL Trust. This is a non-profit charity dedicated to the global awareness and use of APL. As I understand it there have been a number of legal issues in the creation of this Trust as the rules around the world regarding donations vary. However, once these issues have been ironed out, I still believe that there is a potential for the BAA to contribute to this Trust and together with all the other money raised be able to do more for our community. There are no current plans for the BAA to contribute, and we await the outcome of its creation before any decisions are made. A topic for another day.
